A group of researchers from Kyoto Medical University investigated the survival of SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A virus (IAV) on various surfaces, including the skin.
Two interesting aspects emerged from the research:
The first aspect concerns the survival time of both viruses on different surfaces: both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza A virus has been shown to inactivate faster on the skin than other surfaces tested, such as glass and plastic.
The second aspect highlighted by the study is that both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza type A virus on the skin are completely inactivated by applying an 80% ethanol solution.
The study therefore reaffirms, once again, the importance of hand hygiene as a fundamental behavior in preventing the spread of the virus.
However, it is equally important to pay attention to the cleaning of surfaces and objects with which you come into contact daily, which must be sanitized with specific products.
Many of these surfaces are in fact also delicate and cannot be treated with alcohol-based products.
