Laundry detergents and dermatological safety: an analytical approach

30 / 03 2021
Description

As for the world of personal care, dermatological safety is a claim that is increasingly claimed for laundry detergents not only from the pharmacy channel but also by large retailers.

The dermatological safety for a laundry detergent depends on various factors, such as the concentration of heavy metals, the presence of allergens deriving from the fragrance inserted, but also the concentration of enzymes, such as amylase, protease and lipase, which could worsen the situation in subjects suffering from dermatological problems.

The analytical control of the finished product represents a valid tool that companies can use to evaluate the composition of the product and therefore to boast the claim of dermatological safety.

In our laboratories, we perform analyses to evaluate the concentration of heavy metals and enzymes, as reported in this study published in the journal HPC Today, in which we analyzed 14 detergent products from both the pharmacy and large-scale distribution channels.
